Cyst Removal
Cysts are closed sacs filled with fluid or semi-solid material. They can develop under the skin or in internal organs. Common types include sebaceous cysts, which appear as round lumps beneath the skin and can become red or tender if infected.
Cysts can form due to blockages in ducts, infections, or the presence of foreign materials. Genetics, injuries, and underlying medical conditions can also contribute to their development.
- Drainage: The cyst is punctured and the fluid drained.
- Surgical Removal: Complete excision of the cyst to prevent recurrence.
- Medication: Antibiotics for infected cysts.
Lipoma Cyst Removal
Lipomas are benign, fatty lumps that can develop under the skin. While they are generally harmless, they can sometimes cause discomfort or cosmetic concerns. At MD Aesthetics, we offer professional lipoma removal services to help you achieve smoother, lump-free skin.
- Surgical Excision: The most common and effective method for removing lipomas, performed by our skilled surgeons.
- Minimal Scarring: We focus on techniques that minimise scarring, ensuring a smooth recovery and excellent cosmetic results.
Ganglion Cyst Removal
Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled sacs that commonly develop near joints or tendons, particularly in the wrists or hands. These lumps are usually non-cancerous but can cause discomfort or limit movement, especially if they press on nearby nerves.
Ganglion cysts may form due to joint irritation, repetitive stress, or injury, though the exact cause is often unknown. Contributing factors can include genetic predisposition, trauma, or underlying joint conditions. In some cases, ganglion cysts may shrink on their own, but surgical removal is often recommended if they cause pain or interfere with daily activities.
- Aspiration: Fluid is drained from the cyst using a needle.
- Surgical Excision: The cyst and its sac are completely removed via surgery. Performed under local anaesthesia, with a lower chance of recurrence.
- on-Surgical Options: In some cases, immobilising the joint with a splint or brace can reduce the cyst's size by decreasing movement and pressure. However, this does not permanently remove the cyst.

FAQ's
Cysts typically present as small, round lumps under the skin. They can vary in size and may be painless, but some can become red, swollen, or tender if inflamed or infected.
Cysts can occur in anyone, but certain factors such as genetics, skin injuries, or blocked glands may increase the likelihood. People with a history of acne or skin conditions may also be more prone to cysts.
Cyst removal is recommended if it becomes painful, infected, or affects daily life. Some people may also opt for removal for cosmetic reasons or to prevent potential complications.
Cyst removal usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and location of the cyst.
The procedure is typically performed under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the removal. Some mild discomfort may occur afterwards, but it is usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief.
Common side effects include mild swelling, bruising, or discomfort at the site of removal. In rare cases, there may be infection or scarring.
If left untreated, a cyst may continue to grow, become infected, or cause discomfort. In some cases, it may rupture, leading to inflammation or scarring.
